Doctoral Advisory Committee
The national/regional board, in concurrence with the advice from the Interregional Senate, will appoint a Doctoral Advisory Committee to support and guide students throughout their course of study. This committee will consist of faculty members specializing in doctoral studies, including a primary advisor and two additional reviewers/examiners. At least one committee member must represent a different theological school than the primary advisor’s.
The Doctoral Advisory Committee will mentor students during their doctoral programs, monitor each candidate’s progress, and provide periodic updates to the Dean of Studies. They will design and oversee a customized study plan for each doctoral candidate, review progress in coursework, colloquiums, and other academic commitments, and prepare and administer the Comprehensive Examination to assess the candidate’s readiness for dissertation writing.
Additionally, the committee will assist students in crafting their research proposals, conducting research, and writing their dissertations. They will support the student through the oral defense process, ensuring a thorough and rigorous academic journey.
Academic office
During the initial period, the Asia-Pacific Theological Union (APTU) will function without a specific academic office but will function from the established ofices of the national consortiums. The Dean of APTU will coordinate and functon as the reference point for effective coordination. Dean will be responsible to coordinate all administrative responsibilities related to the academic life of APTU. Financial administration will be centered at Union Theological Seminary, Philippines.
Campus
The study and research program, however, will span multiple campuses formed by the participating schools. Colloquiums and courses will also be conducted at various institutions within the consortium.
Library
Candidates will have unrestricted access to the libraries of all participating seminaries and universities within the consortium.
Dean/Registrar
Initially, the academic office will be managed by a Dean of the program assisted by the governing board of APTU The Dean/Registrar will be responsible for all matters related to the Asia-Pacific Theological Union. She/He will serve as an ex-officio member of the National/Regional Board, the Executive General Secretary of the Interregional Board, and the Moderator of the Senate.
